Activity 7: Non-standard Measurement

Do You Know You Can Measure with Paper Clips, Cheerios and Cubes?

This is another fun-filled activity which children would enjoy as well as learn at the same time. Its not necessary to use paper clips, cheerios or cubes but you can use any item that can be easily found within your classrooms or homes. Just make sure that you use items with different sizes as a measuring tool.

Objective:

Students will learn how to measure objects using non-standard measurement tools (paper clips, cheerios and cubes)

Activity:

Demonstrate how to measure the side of an object using the items mentioned above. You can use pictures of different shapes and also objects found within the room.
Emphasize on the importance of measuring in a straight line and that items are touching one another but not connected.
Have the students complete a worksheet (printed in A3 size) where they have to measure pictures using the same items mentioned above.
