Activity 5: Non-standard Measurement

Let's Measure with our Stationaries!




This activity can be treated as a basic introduction to non-standard measurement. It can be conducted in any classroom or even at home as everything you need is already there, that is basic stationaries and items that can be found in any classroom or home. 


Objective:

Students will demonstrate an understanding of measuring the length of objects using nonstandard units and ordering their data so that they can compare their results.  


Activity:

Conduct a demonstration on measuring objects within the classroom using non-standard measurement units such as using their stationaries as units of measurement.
Have them complete an activity sheet where they have to measure different objects and also determine the ones with the shortest and longest length.

  1. this is a very cool idea! I think this way kids would be able to understand the concept of scaling too...even easier for us parents to explain ;)
